Makes 9-12 bars
5 tablespoons butter
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup flour
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup white sugar
1 8-ounce package cream cheese
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream the butter and brown sugar.
Add the flour and nuts.
Set aside 1 cup of the mixture for the topping.
Press the remaining mixture in the bottom of an 8 by 8 inch baking pan.
Bake for 12-15 minutes.
Blend the sugar and cream cheese until smooth.
Add the egg, milk, lemon juice, and vanilla and beat well.
Spread over the bottom crust and sprinkle with the reserved topping.
Return to the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
Let cool, then chill and cut into bars.
