Sugar Cookies

Makes 2-3 dozen


1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

3/4 cup sugar

1 egg, beaten

2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the frosting:

3 cups powdered sugar

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

1-3 teaspoons vanilla, to taste


Cream together the butter and sugar.

Add the egg, milk, and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Add to the butter mixture.

Gather the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Roll the dough out on a floured surface to 1/8 inch thickness.

Using your favorite cookie cutter, cut out the cookies and place them on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, watching carefully.

For the frosting, beat together the sugar, butter, and vanilla.

If the frosting is not the right consistency, add a little milk to it.

Spread the frosting on the cookies.
