Tollhouse Cookies

Makes 2 dozen


1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/8 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 cookie sheets.

With an electric mixer, cream the butter or margarine and the two sugars together until light and fluffy.

In another bowl, whisk together the egg and vanilla.

Gradually beat the egg mixture into the butter mixture.

Sift over the flour, baking soda, and salt and stir to blend.

Add the chocolate chips and nuts.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheets.

Bake for 10-15 minutes.

Transfer to a rack to cool.
