This is a dessert that my mom grew up with. It definitely satisfies her chocolate cravings.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
4 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3 1/2 cups hot water
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Sift together the first 5 ingredients.
Add the milk, oil, and vanilla and mix until smooth.
Stir in the nuts.
Pour the batter into a greased 9 by 13 inch baking pan.
Combine the remaining ingredients; pour over batter.
Bake for about 40 minutes.
