Gingerbread

Serves 6-8

Ingredients:

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter, softened

1 egg

1 cup molasses

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup hot water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease and flour a 9 inch square pan.

In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and butter.

Beat in the egg, and mix in the molasses.

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and salt.

Blend into the creamed mixture.

Stir in the hot water.

Pour into the prepared pan and bake 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.

Serve with fresh whipped cream.

  1. This recipe is very similar to my mother’s gingerbread cake. I have always loved gingerbread since I grew up with it.
